· Kassie Rohrbach - Executive Director - Kassie was one of the co-founders of Energy Action Coalition, a youth-led coalition of environmental and social justice groups. She helped grow EAC into a robust and effective organization for change. Kassie brings 8 years of coalition-building, policy development, and organizational development to WOBO.
WOBO Board of Directors (Job Description for Members of the Board of Directors)
· Carli Paine - Board Chairperson - Carli leads TransForm's (formerly Transportation and Land use Coalition) transportation campaigns and policy development. She also administers the Bay Area's Safe Routes to Transit grant program and leads TransForm's regional coalition. Carli was a planner for the cities of Berkeley and El Cerrito. Carli is an Oakland native and holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Columbia University and a Master in City Planning from MIT. Responsibilities: Carli directs WOBO's strategic planning efforts and coalition building with other likeminded organizations. Email Carli· Alec Berger - Newsletter Editor and Webmaster - Alec is a freelance marketing consultant with expertise in radio and direct communications. He has been an on-air personality for a number of Denver area radio stations (KBCO, KSPN, KNFO) has produced and developed marketing, PR and advertising campaigns for both radio and print. He is an avid social biker and wants to help create the social bike riding scene that he loved from the Denver community. Alec has WOBO's deepest and sexiest voice. Responsibilities: Alec is WOBO's Newsletter Editor and Webmaster and helps direct WOBO's grassroots organizing efforts. Email Alec
· Gloria Bruce - Development Committee - Gloria joined the WOBO board because walking (more slowly than on her native East Coast), biking, and Oakland are three of her favorite things. Gloria has experience in education, environment and affordable housing, and works at The San Francisco Foundation making grants to community development nonprofits. She focuses on fundraising and outreach, and on promoting walking and biking as important tools for community-building and social justice. Gloria has a degree in history from Harvard and in City Planning from UC Berkeley, and lives just off the Webster-Shafter bike route with her wife Wendy and cat Amari. Responsibilities: Gloria helps direct WOBO's grantwriting and other fundraising activities. Email Gloria
· Mark Dieter - Co-founder - Mark is a public school teacher who has been teaching 7th and 8th grade science at Newark Junior High School since 2000. Mark was an environmental educator and naturalist before becoming a classroom teacher. Mark started an after school bicycle club which has been growing for 4 years. Mark has been an Oakland Bicycling Pedestrian Advisory Committee member for 6 years, serving as Vice-Chair in 2007. With the birth of his daughter, Mark is learning car-free ways that families can enjoy the Bay Area. His family uses a Bakfietsen for shopping, going to the park, and other daily needs. Responsibilities: Mark started our monthly Kidical Mass rides to unite the community of cycling families in Oakland. Email Mark
· Chris Hwang - BPAC Liaison - Chris is the Research and Evaluation Administrator at First 5 Alameda County, which provides services and supports to organizations serving families with children 0-5 years old. Her professional work spans more than 12 years in public health. WOBO gives Chris opportunities to advocate for change to make Oakland a healthy place to live. Chris also serves as the Vice Chair of the City of Oakland Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Responsibilities: Chris is WOBO's primary liaison to the Oakland BPAC, as the grassroots organizer on the Bike Broadway campaign and is actively involved in the Lake Merritt BART station redevelopment planning process. · Jennifer Jackson - Vice Chair of the Board of Directors (Co-founder) - Jen is a Community Affairs Representative at the East Bay Municipal Utility District and was formerly a community organizer with Save The Bay and the Sierra Club. Jen began bicycle commuting ten years ago in San Francisco, and continues pedal pushing rain or shine in Oakland. Jen cut her teeth on bicycle and pedestrian concerns while organizing her Oakland neighborhood to advocate for extensive bicycle and pedestrian improvements at the Oakland Whole Foods Market project. Jen holds a M.A. in Environmental Planning and Resource Management from San Francisco State's Geography Department. Responsibilities: Jen directs WOBO's grassroots Harrison-Oakland Avenue campaign. · Doug Johnson - Policy Director (Co-founder) - Doug is the Transportation for Livable Communities Program Manager at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, where he has worked for six years. Holding a master's degree in city planning and transportation engineering from University of California at Berkeley, Doug lends a wealth of expertise to WOBO as we address bike and pedestrian planning issues in the City of Oakland. Doug is a Bay Area native, has lived in Oakland for eight years, and is an avid cyclist both recreationally and for his everyday commute. Responsibilities: Doug is WOBO's chief policy analyst and a primary liaison to Oakland elected officials. Email Doug
· Dominic Lucchesi - Outreach Committee Co-Director - By day, Dominic works as a Fleet Services Technician and bike messenger for City CarShare. Over the past several years, Dominic has been heavily involved in local bicycle advocacy, working for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, the Bay Area Bicycle Coalition (BABC) and now Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO). Responsibilities: Dominic co-directs WOBO's community outreach and membership development efforts including grassroots organizing for campaigns, at events and public gatherings. Email Dominic
· Roger Miller - Treasurer - Roger is an independent fundraising and leadership consultant. He was most recently the Executive Director of Bay Area Wilderness Training, which provides training to youth workers to get at-risk and underprivileged youth on backpacking and camping trips. Roger previously worked in fund development for Rainforest Action Network, Redefining Progress and the International Forum on Globalization. Roger has a master's degree in non-profit management from University of San Francisco and his thesis focused on collaborative leadership between environmental advocacy organizations and undergraduate degrees in Finance and German from University of Illinois. Responsibilities: Roger is responsible for WOBO's operations, fundraising and financial management. Email Roger
· Alicia Parker - Bike Broadway Campaign Director - Alicia is a Strategic Planner with City of Oakland's Community and Economic Development Agency. Alicia recently traveled to Bogota Colombia to check out their amazing Ciclovia (Sunday Streets) events, which WOBO is working to replicate here in Oakland. Responsibilities: Alicia directs WOBO's Bike Broadway Campaign's policy, political outreach and strategy. Email Alicia
· Shannon Tracey - Outreach Committee Co-Director - Shannon manages fund development and communication supporter outreach, publications and events for San Francisco Baykeeper. She joins the WOBO team with nearly a decade of experience in community organizing, leadership development and nonprofit fundraising and administration. She holds an M.S. in environmental education from the Audubon Expedition Institute at Lesley University and a B.A. in biological anthropology from Harvard University. Responsibilities: Shannon co-directs WOBO's community outreach and membership development efforts including grassroots organizing for campaigns, at events and public gatherings and is a primary driver of WOBO's Sunday Streets campaign.
