Launching the Bike Broadway CampaignBroadway map-interactive smallest.jpg

So, you want to get from Berkeley to downtown Oaktown and back again, huh?  We bike that way a lot, too.  That's why WOBO is launching the Bike Broadway CampaignLet's get some bike lanes on upper Broadway to downtown, Franklin and Webster. Broadway is a neighborhood street, not a freeway. Let's slow it down and make it a better street for walking and biking.

Broadway is Broad Enough for All of Us!

Campaign Goal:
Install bike lanes on Broadway from Highway 24 to MacArthur and from 27th via Webster and Franklin to Eighth Street to create a continuous north south bike route almost FIVE miles long! See the interactive maps on the WOBO webpage
here.

Campaign Overview:

  • The City has already done the 'heavy lifting' and completed an Environmental Impact Report, which includes a feasibility study for this project.
  • This is not a project that involves expensive or extensive work. We can get it done in the next year - by June 2009.

WOBO's Monthly Meeting on Wed, July 2nd - Focus on the Broadway Campaign

At the WOBO general meeting this month (tonight), we'll discuss the Broadway Campaign.  If we're going to be successful, we're going to need to get a lot of folks out talking about it!  Join us in a campaign messaging skill share.  We're also going to focus on next campaign steps and how you can get involved in making these new bike lanes a reality.  New folks are always welcome to join us for food, drinks and discussion and planning.  Bring your ideas, enthusiasm, and energy!  WOBO has our general meetings once/month at La Estrallita Cafe and Bar at 446 E 12th St. in Oakland on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm. Next meeting is tonight, July 2nd.  La Estrallita is just 6 blocks from the Lake Merritt BART station.  For more information, contact roger@walkoaklandbikeoakland.org.

We got pimp new bike stickers!

We ordered four cool new bike stickers months and months ago and they finally just came in, so we'll start mailing out this and three other fresh designs to generous folks who've donated over the last few months in the next few weeks.  Thanks for your patience!  For those of you who haven't made a generous donation to WOBO yet, here's your chance.  Click here.
