Greetings \{FIRST_NAME\},

Contact your Oakland Councilmember and thank them for passing the Bike Plan and tell them to fund implementation

Big bicycle victory!! At the City Council meeting on December 4th, Oakland ’s City Council approved the new Bicycle Master Plan. The plan envisions 220 miles of bikeways (paths, lanes or routes) to be added to the existing network of 87 miles. Check it out!

Email WOBO now to let us know what routes are most important to you, so we can begin to advocate for your priorities.
The next big hurdle: getting this bicycle heaven implemented. Two dedicated staff are just not enough to make this plan a reality (San Francisco has thirteen Bicycle and Pedestrian planning staff). While four council members have gone on the record in support of back-filling an existing bike-ped position, funding for the position was removed from the budget last year. Please contact your City Councilperson to ask them to fund the bicyle planning position at the mid-cycle budget review!

Make the Caldecott Tunnel Bike Accessible

Join WOBO and other community groups with a by donating as we challenge the environmental document that paves the way for a fourth Caldecott Tunnel on Highway 24.  WOBO is raising funds to financially support the 4th Bore Coalition in order to secure better conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians needed due to increased auto traffic associated with this project.  If a On key Oakland roads like Broadway and Telegraph, there will be more cars heading to the expanded freeway.  We must ensure  Oakland's bicycle and pedestrian needs are addressed through this process.  Donate today and note "No 4th Bore!"

A Station Wagon...Bike?  Here come the Bakfiets!
Bakfiets (plural: "bakfietsen") came out of the Netherlands -- thus the funny name, which means "wagon bike" (and can be shortened to simply "BAK"). But bakfietsen are now available in the United States, through Clever Cycles, a distributor and retailer in Portland, OR. There are also plans to manufacture a lower-cost, American-made version of the bakfiets in NE Portland. And, apparently there has been a version called the "Long Haul", made in Eugene, Oregon (already American-made!) for some time now.
